What is MP3 to MIDI conversion?

MP3 to MIDI conversion turns a recorded audio file into a MIDI file — a set of editable notes with pitch, timing, and velocity instead of a fixed waveform. A neural pitch-detection model listens to the melody in your MP3 or WAV and writes out the notes it hears, so you can reopen the performance in any DAW or notation editor and change it.

Unlike the original recording, the resulting MIDI carries no sound of its own: it is instructions your software plays back with any instrument. That makes it ideal for re-scoring a song, transposing a melody, studying a solo, or turning a rough idea into a clean arrangement.

Highlights

Piano-roll preview

Hear the transcription against the original on an interactive roll before you download anything.

Tunable detection

Adjust sensitivity, minimum note length, and pitch bends, then re-transcribe without re-uploading.

MIDI & sheet music export

Download a standard .mid file, or export MusicXML/PDF for MuseScore, Sibelius, and printing.

Getting the cleanest transcription

  • Monophonic sources (a single melody line — vocals, flute, lead guitar) transcribe far more accurately than dense mixes.
  • Trim intros, applause, and silence before uploading — cleaner input means fewer ghost notes.
  • If you hear extra notes, lower the detection sensitivity; if soft notes are missing, raise it and re-transcribe.
  • AI transcription is a starting point. Use the built-in editor to fix the handful of wrong notes instead of redoing it by hand.

Frequently asked questions

Is this MP3 to MIDI converter free?

Yes. You can convert and preview MP3 to MIDI online for free without creating an account. Signing in additionally saves results to your history and unlocks editing and sheet music export.

What audio formats are supported?

MP3 and WAV uploads up to 50 MB. For best results use dry, monophonic recordings — a single melodic line without heavy accompaniment.

How accurate is the transcription?

The transcription is powered by Spotify's Basic Pitch neural network. Clean, single-melody recordings come out nearly perfect; polyphonic or noisy audio will contain some wrong notes, which you can fix in the built-in piano-roll editor or by re-transcribing with tuned parameters.

Can I edit the MIDI after conversion?

Yes. The workbench lets you move, delete, join, and transpose notes, change tempo, and export the corrected MIDI. Signed-in users can also export sheet music as MusicXML or PDF.
